Choroidal calcification revealing a primary hyperparathyroidism: A case report.

Ben Nacef Ibtissem et al.
2025

Choroidal calcification is an uncommon benign lesion occurring in predominantly elderly. This condition is ordinarily idiopathic. However, it can be caused by phosphocalcic metabolism disorders. We report the case of a 72-year-old woman followed-up in the ophthalmology department for proliferative diabetic retinopathy who was found to have a bilateral yellowish lesion in the fundus during a routine eye examination corresponding to a choroidal calcification. Metabolic analyses led to the diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism. Choroidal calcifications warrant a systemic evaluation to identify a potential underlying disease.
